Like every other Vehicon,
Thrust has a spectacular-looking Vehicle
Mode. Everything from the
detailing, the pain job, right down to
the chrome (oooooooh, the
chrome!). It's show accurate
enough to make me happy. My only
real complaint about this mode is the
unnecessary head gimmick. A
small wheel beneath the head causes it
to snap to the left as he rolls
along. This is easily
remedied by bending the front wheels
down a bit so the middle wheel can't
make contact. The
"earpieces" on the vehicle
head are molded to look like handlebars,
though there's no obvious place for a
rider to sit. Perhaps you could
buy two, and then Thrust would be a
Junkion! Overall, very smooth,
very sleek, very nice.
His Robot Mode,
however, suffer a bit. It's
usually quite difficult to get a
perfectly balanced toy that looks great
in both modes (more on that in the Blackarachnia
review), and more often than not one
mode suffers. Thrust's rear wheels
simply have no place to go unless you
employ his three-wheeled mode, which
provides him with a stability that his
unicycle or "feet" modes do
not. The Vehicle Head can be
pulled off for a more show-accurate
look, but there's no other place to put
it, so it can get lost easily if you are
prone to doing this. Thrust's neck
is abnormally long in order to accommodate
his transformation, so
leaving the Vehicle head on is
recommended.
The biggest problem I
see here is that nothing really locks
into place, and so the transformation to
Robot Mode is rather unintuitive,
leaving you with a sense of "oh,
it's *supposed* to look like that?"
after you read the instructions,
something I NEVER like to do unless it's
a more complex and highly superior
Japanese-designed toy. His
shoulders are simply too low, and his
feet are wobbly at the ankles (assuming
you even use the feet), so he has a
habit of swaying back and forth.
Not a bad Vehicon, but definitely not
the best. Oh, and he's really
tall. Taller than Tankorr.

This is a very swank-looking
toy. The vehicle mode is
just so incredibly detailed (and oh..
the chrome... <drool>) and
moveable that it screams "Play with
me". It has a weird feature
where the head moves when you move him
forward -- which can be stopped just by
bending the front wheels a little. The
Robot mode is cool, but not as cool as
the Vehicle mode. There are a
couple options for the feet... (3
wheeled, 1 wheeled, Legs) and it's just
plain fun, really. The only
problem I really had was that in robot
mode, while things *look* good, they
don't all "lock," or have an
intuitive position. I had to
look at the instructions on this guy to
figure out how it worked.
So, other than the lack of locking, and
the unintuitive transformation, he's
sweet. A definite must have
-- but good luck finding him. |
