| This guy is the lost Autobot brother
from Robots in Disguise, I swear. He
has all of the flexibility that I've wanted in the other toys, but
at the same time he has that Fisher Price feel to him that I
dislike so much, and unfortunately it's prevalent in this
line. Actually, it's mostly prevalent in the Autobots.
But I got this guy anyway because I got my hands on Zac Shipley's,
and I just had to get one of my own. And he shoots a
steering wheel out of his chest. How cool is that?
While Red Alert is also supposedly a Mega, he is definitely
Ultra-sized, which matches the actual cost quite well.
Anyway... This dude is a little bit Ratchet, a little bit G1
Red Alert, and a smattering of X-Brawn.
I really don't know what else to say. The hips aren't
ball-in-socket as one might expect. In fact, they don't even
move all that much laterally -- but they CAN. Despite all
the flexibility there is relatively little extra junk. It
all just hangs off the back in Robot Mode. It can be a
little annoying because, unlike his brethren, it detracts from his
articulation. The platforms off of his legs can get a little
annoying, but they are a cool feature for some lucky
Mini-Con. The Mini-Con gimmick are pretty simple. One
fires the chest steering wheel missile, and in another place it
make a noise or deploys the cannon. And unlike what you
might see on the show, the cannon is NOT removeable!
This guy is the embodiment of two different design
philosophies. In fact, they are almost incompatible.
This tug of war really makes it hard for me to grade this puppy,
but I'll give it a go. I used to think that I like him
better than Starscream, but... I don't. Again, if he were a
smaller toy I'd say he was brilliant. He would work great as
a Deluxe, even these larger-sized ones.
Oh... his Mini-Con is alright, I guess. |
