| He's the perfect fusion of Cheetor AND
Hot Rod AND Bumblebee. I never thought I'd see the day, but
then again I guess it was inevitable. And look at that
name. You just know that they wanted to call him Hot Rod,
but couldn't.
[Original Review ]
I'm sitting here staring at Hot Shot. I'm
looking at the pictures in the box. I'm looking at the
pictures on this site. I'm looking, and after the severe
disappointment that was Cyclonus I don't feel like throwing away
another $13. I think I'll be taking this guy back first
thing tomorrow when I get my comics. I'm still cheesed that
I won't be getting Armada #1 until tomorrow. I guess Dia de
Armada will have to wait. I might give this guy a chance
later when I see him for less in a store like Walmart or
something, but not today.
[Additional]
I still don't like him. There are some good things, and like
Red Alert he has some good qualities, but not nearly as
many. The upper arms are atrocious, making Hot Shot look
wholly ridiculous no matter what. And that garrish yellow
color... Guh. Except for those shoulders, he is quite
poseable, and the Mini-Con gimmick is cute. Pull down on the
power-linx and the rear wheels pop out. Pull farther and it
rotates above the head and fires a missile. Kind of silly
that he would need a Mini-Con to use this weapon, but then all of
the Mini-Con gimmicks are kind of silly. I was really hoping
that the rumors of the Mini-Con functionality were true -- that
they would form armor for their partner Autobot or Decepticon,
make more convincing weapons, or merge in more fascinating
ways. Right now only Demolishor and
Cyclonus have Mini-Cons that do
anything remotely close to that. Of course, in order to do
any of these wonderful things, the Mini-Cons would have to be much
larger, say the size of a Beast Wars / Machines basic toy.
They could split apart and recombine as new vehicles or weapons
and be a TRUE extension of their partner rather than unlocking
something already existing in their bodies. Perhaps the
engineers found it too much of a challenge. Maybe it never
occurred to those in charge. Who knows. All I know is
that this would have been a far more attractive idea.
And that's all I have to say about that.
