CONFIRMED - TOY
RUMO(U)RS
1. The McDonald's Beast Machines
toys are cooler than their Hasbro counterparts.
We shall see. I'll be picking up a few of
these later today when they come out (7/4/00).
RUMOUR CONFIRMED!: I mean,
really, the McPrimal is so show accurate, it's almost
sickening! And when you paint Jetstorm with enough colors,
his vehicle mode looks JUST LIKE the show. Who made these
things? If it's not Hasbro, then get these guys to do
more! If it IS Hasbro... stop dropping the ball!
2. Hasbro is releasing a
basic-sized cycle drone and a deluxe Stryka toy..
I'd buy it. The only reason this is downgraded to
"rumor" status is its source. Hasbro would
completely be able to repaint a Blastcharge to look like Stryka,
then say the Blastcharge toy is her drone. Kind of a
reverse of what has been going on with the drones coming LATER,
but this is the show's fault for naming a character something
different than the toy it was based on.
NOTE: I've put up the cycle
drone in the Beast Machines Toy
section anyway. Hey, I'm only human.
RUMOUR CONFIRMED!: Prototype
pictures for Stryka have been seen. While no Cycle Drone has
been seen, I'll bump this up to confirmed status anyway. If
Stryka and the Tank Drone exist, the Cycle Drone probably does as
well.
3. Hasbro is releasing Mega
Optimus Primal toy.
At first glance this would seem to conflict with #4, but really,
why should it? Add that to the fact that this rumor is just
as valid as the first (i.e. not very), then you realize that these
two are of a like mind... wishful thinking. Let's hope that
it's true, though.
NOTE: See note for the Mega
Silverbolt rumor.
RUMOUR CONFIRMED!: He's called
Blast Punch Primal, and can be seen here.
4. Hasbro is releasing Car Robots
toys as a special line to coincide with the Fox Kids dub.
This would almost have to happen in order for Fox to be allowed to
do the show. Of course, a god measure of you mooks has been
complaining about the prospect. Maybe you just hate the
show, or already own the toys and feel it would ruin your
investment. Get over it. I own every original mold
from that line except Gigatron, and I don't have a problem with
it. Heck, I might even get the new Hasbro counterparts --
assuming the rumor is true -- and muse at the differences.
RUMOUR CONFIRMED!: Well, it's
only special in the sense that it's only a season-long filler, but
Car Robots molds will indeed be released stateside as...
5. The name of the Car Robots
toys will be a special sub-line called "Robots In
Disguise."
This would seem rather accurate. This comes from a source
who claims to have seen a flier for Toy Fair 2001. We'll see
how this develops. I can guarantee one thing: lot of
questions about the next line will be cleared up in a few short
weeks, as well as rumors dismissed and the creation of new ones.
RUMOUR CONFIRMED!: See how
easily this rumor passed through our hands? It wasn't even a
rumor at all... it was true! Again, not a
"special" sub-line like the Dinobots, but a year-long
thing. Fun, isn't it?
6. The "missing" G2
GoBots molds, as well as the MW jets, will be released as part of
Robots in Disguise.
This one would seem silly until one realizes that there is a
two-pack on the "official" RiD toy lists floating around
out there that can't be accounted for in Car Robots. There
also seems to be a couple of aerial modes that were conspicuously
absent from the series as well. This seems to be the most
logical and least expensive solution. However, this still
remain intense speculation at this point.
RUMOUR CONFIRMED!:
We have four new spychangers and a couple of Machine Wars jets in
basic and deluxe two-packs. The reason they are sold that
way is that they aren't worth that much alone. Sure, it was
impressive around the time of the first season of Beast Wars, but
now...
7. Cerberus has become an RiD
toy.
This is less clear than the Primal fiasco. It makes
absolutely no sense to put Cerberus in this line unless Hasbro's
going to try to pass him off as an RiD Predacon rather than a BM
Maximal. Perhaps this toy is just being released at the same
time as RiD like Primal. In any case, it makes far more
sense for Cerberus to be an RiD toy than Primal. But then,
since we've never seen any sort of prototype pictures or ANY
pictures at all, unlike the rest of the line, it's probably best
to assume the toy was either canned or that it never existed in
the first place.
NOTE: A more current toy list
in circulation still has Cerberus on it.
RUMOUR CONFIRMED!:
He's called Bruticus now, and he's hella-lame. I mean, if
they actually COLORED the toy (it looks like a freakin' prototype,
not at ALL up to the standards of the other beasts in the show),
it might display well, but nothing can make up for poor
engineering.
8. Supreme Primal is going to be
a Toys 'R' Us exclusive
Probably not. Don't hold your breath. The information
this is based on is mostly speculation due to his listing in a TRU
computer. No official sources have come forward to confirm
or deny this. Assume he's not going to be shipped, and
you'll be a far happier person.
NOTE: Well, I'll be darned, it
looks like Ben Yee is "90% certain" that this is
true. Slap me and call me a Buddha Monkey's uncle!
We'll just see how this develops...
NOTE: Regardless, it's
beginning to seem as though Hasbro decided against it.
RUMOUR BUSTER! (30.12.01): At
this point I'm thinking "no"...
RUMOUR CONFIRMED! (03.04.02):
Back from the grave! Sorry about this one, kids. Looks
like Hasbro's going to do it after all. Air Attack Optimus
Primal will now be a Toys 'R' Us exclusive shipping some time this
spring. That's REALLY damned good. I never thought it
would happen, but a year after the fact it will! Not only
that, but Megabolt Megatron is going to be a Kay Bee
exclusive. He even has RiD packaging. Brrrr... |
