Busted-arse Rumo(u)rs!
1. The next series (2001) will be called
"Trans Tech Transformers."
Please keep in mind that the titles of series are always subject
to change prior to release. You remember "Beast
Hunters?" Uh huh, that's what I thought.
RUMOR BUSTER!: According
to at least two sources (one which has proven reliable i.e. Benson
Yee), the idea known as Trans Tech never made it past the initial
design stages. Maybe it was because of Hasbro's recent
financial woes in a year where the company failed to turn a profit
on Pokémon, but all we know is that it's gone.
2. The next Transformers series
(2001) will take place before Beast Wars.
One might expect Hasbro to want to continue where Beast Machines
left off. Without saying too much, they might find that
difficult. So what exactly does this rumor mean? Will
this be a series rooted in a time before the events of the Beast
Wars on prehistoric Earth, and/or after the launch of the
Ark? Will this be a series devoted to the time frame between
The Rebirth and the beginning of Beast Wars, before they traveled
back in time to prehistoric Earth? Either of these
explanations make sense if Hasbro wants to return to
vehicles. That's how Takara did it. Car Robots occurs
in the present day, but so far seemingly apart from normal G1
continuity. It could be that Takara is forging ahead on
their own, or that they're just muddying the waters a bit
more. Again, only time will tell on this one.
Hopefully we should know more by BotCon.
NOTE: BotCon has
come and gone, and while we do know *some* things... we... er...
are not at liberty to discuss them at this time. Sorry, we
have to keep SOME secrets. I will go as far as to say that
the "Monkey Truck" idea was axed very early on.
But, that is all you'll get from us for now.
NOTE: Well, those
things were rooted in Trans Tech, so while true at the time, they
are no longer valid. We'll just see what happens.
NOTE: Car Robots is coming to U.S. shores.
We'll see where this fits into continuity, if at all. We do
know that there will be no original show this fall. Don't
worry, you'll like the Car Robots toys.
RUMOR BUSTER!: How
do I explain this one? Technically, Robots in Disguise takes
place before Beast Wars, but not in the same universe AS Beast
Wars. Therefore, whether or not it takes place before Beast
Wars is a rather moot point (though, as little as Beast Wars
explains the origins of the G1-era TFs, RiD could very well be a
viable back story for the Beast Era, and the Beast Era a logical
extension of RiD). So, technically, it's not true.
3. The show takes place before
the movie, and in fact leads up to the events in TF:TM.
It could work. The forms don't make any sense, but it could
work. Notice how Brawn, Prowl, and Ironhide are supposed to
be dead? The only tomb we didn't see aboard the funeral
barge in Season 3 was Brawn's...
RUMOUR BUSTER!:
According to the responses of an "Exec
in Charge of the RiD Show Overseeing the Re-edit of 'Car Robots'"
at bobskir.com, this show is
going to be more akin to a parallel universe, that retells a
similar situation in G1 with similar characters, but isn't
actually pretending to be that original show. To me, this
means that TransFans everywhere can breathe a sigh of relief, as
plot holes and oversights that may have been concerns before are
suddenly no longer relevant. If you still feel like
screaming bloody murder over the outright replacement of the
original history, just remember that this is probably going to
help the mythos more than hurt it, and a lot of eager young little
TransFans are going to get interested in that which you hold so
dear.
4. RiD will see the return of the
Cyber Cube from the so-called "G2" episodes.
The hell? It was a bad idea originally, and it would be a
terrible idea now. This is based off of (supposedly)
third-hand information, which means that you should probably
stop reading now and forget you ever saw this rumor.
Apparently, in order to make the show more kid accessible, Hasbro
wants a narrator to talk in between scenes, and to this end a CG
cube may be added (based on some crazy idea that without some CG
the show won't be interesting). Hell, just because Hasbro
might insert a 3D dildo that floats across the screen randomly and
for no reason does NOT mean I'll find the show more
interesting. On the other hand... well, at any rate,
chalk this one up to pure fan speculation, and just wait for the
series to air. This one's so full of holes that I don't even
want to talk about it any more.
RUMOUR BUSTER!:
Lies! I knew that this was a plant long ago, just to see
what kind of erroneous information BigBot would put up on its
site, but I couldn't say anything until after the show aired, and
then I forgot! Nope, no cube, just 3D versions of the logo
wipes -- Autobot, Predacon, and DECEPTICON!
5. Bob Skir is involved with
Robots in Disguise.
Why do people think this? Because there's now a FAQ on bobskir.com.
It's a reasonable enough mistake, but one must realize who runs
the site. It is a sister site of bigbot.com
/ bottalk.com / bigbot.net,
all owned and run by the infamous Renaud Lefebvre. Note that
Skir and Isenberg are STILL listed as moderators for the Bottalk
Beast Machines and Action Man forums. I can guarantee you
that these guys have better things to do than monitor a message
board all day. Renaud has an army of hired moderators to do
that sort of work. So, if your post that links to the
AllSpark or that insinuated that posting the RiD FAQ on
bobskir.com might be misleading suddenly disappears, I can say for
a fact that neither Bob Skir nor Marty Isenberg was the one who
got rid of it. The FAQ is only there because Renaud knows
it'll get hits there. It even says on the bottom of the page
that the source is an "executive in charge of overseeing the
Car Robots re-edit." Well, Skir's not a Fox executive,
he's a writer. It ain't him. Don't worry about it any
more.
RUMOUR BUSTER!:
Unsurprisingly, this was a complete and utter fabrication, and Bob
had nothing to do with it.
