1. There is indeed a Transformers
feature movie in the works.
Could be. Bob Skir (most likely Renaud Lefebvre in disguise)
himself said that he knew about its
existence, but had no idea what it entailed.
Will it be a Beast Machines movie? Impossible.
Beast Machines is a 26-episode "novel for
television." The entire story was contained in those 26
episodes, and ended very succinctly in episode 26. As for the
Beast Machines movie entry in the Internet
Movie Database (slated for a 2000 release), you'll note that
it was submitted by an anonymous party with an overactive
imagination. Beast Machines is over. Done with.
Will it be a pre-G1 movie? Unlikely. As a property
of Hasbro, which is in the business of making toys, you will not
see such a Transformers feature unless Hasbro plans on backing it
with a toy line. No such line has been announced directly,
though Hasbro publicly admits that it's going back to Vehicular
toys (much like Takara, which has so far pulled this off
splendidly).
The likelihood that this will be a pre-G1 type of deal is slim,
as they will *probably* opt to continue the story started with
Beast Wars. But, we don't know this for sure. At
any rate, it will be a few years before we even see anything about
it.
2. The rights to a Transformers
feature film have been bought. (13.07.02)
This *looks* legit from all indications so far. But there
are questions. By whom? For what reason?
What's the production schedule like? Who pitched the
idea? You don't think that Hasbro just gave this away to
some fan, did you? Oh, but there's more...
2.1: This new film, like the Joseph Kahn one before it, will
be live action. (13.07.02)
Well, why the hell not? That rumor
say well with the fandom last time it was thrown out there...
2.2: The actors
are already cast and production is going ahead apace in Canada.
(13.07.02)
This makes sense logically,
I'll give it that. But the other part of this rumor is
that pre-production began quite a while ago. But we only
just learned that the rights had been sold. Still, other
things lend credence to this part of the rumor. The first
movie was in production at the same time as the first season of
the show, which is why we only see characters from that season
in the movie (aside from the newer, made-for-the-movie
characters). And that film took two years to make.
Armada is just beginning this year... hmm... the parallels...
2.3: The actors
are already cast and production is going ahead apace in Canada.
(13.07.02)
There most certainly ARE
unions in Canada. This guy is either lying or an
idiot. Neither bodes well for the rest of us.
2.4: The film has its root in G1, or rather redefines G1 for
a new generation. (13.07.02)
Okay, now you've lost
me. Armada is the hot property right now and will still be
around when this movie is supposed to come out. Why not
make it based off of that? Unless Armada *is* this
interpretation of G1 for a "new generation", which it
certainly seems like it is. We'll see.
Oh, this one is my favorite...
2.5: The main characters are NOT Prime and Megatron.
(13.07.02)
BZZZZT! Show this rumor the exit,
and don't let the door hit it on the way out! Okay, before
I get all passionate about this, let's analyze this
logically. Firebot and Comettor are the principle
characters. Both of these names are currently trademarked
by Hasbro. Comettor specifically is the Mini-Con assigned
to Armada Jetstorm. A couple of Mini-Cons stowing away on
Prime's ship on its way to Earth? I guess it depends on
when in the series, assuming it's Armada, this is taking place
(I assume AFTER Jetfire's introduced). This makes sense on
the surface... but wait. Prime's going to Earth at the
beginning of Armada because Mini-Cons -- who have been lost for
centuries -- have been found. Now, whether this meant that
ALL Mini-Cons were lost prior to the first episode of Armada is
something we won't know for another month and two weeks.
We shall see, like all things. We shall see.
