Rumo(u)r Hunter-Killer!
4.
Armada takes place after Beast Machines.
Yeppers. Whether it be a year or a thousand years -- it's
not all that important -- this show will continue along the same
storyline we've known since 1996, and will most likely answer some
questions that fans have been longing to have answered for quite
some time. Cybertron will still be plant-ified, but I can
definitely say you that there are characters who won't be happy
about this! Besides, the wonderful thing about the vagueness
of the Oracle's actions in Beast Machines is that writers can come
along in the future and say that the events of that show were to
prepare Cybertron for an even MORE cataclysmic event!
Story-wise, Beast Machine was a lot like G1's Rebirth trilogy, but
I think Armada will prove to be far more akin to the idea in terms
of scope and importance, because after next year NOTHING is going
to be the same.
Note: According to Wizard magazine this show is
actually set to take place not too long after the original G1
series, which makes sense considering that it features many G1
characters... although it'll be interesting to see how they
explain the absence of scores of others if this part is
true. Heck, this little tidbit could practically be a
rumor in and of itself.
RUMO(U)R BUSTER!:
It seems that these are BOTH false. The show is just
another show, and indications are that it's related more to
Robots in Disguise than anything else. The new buzz says
that we're going to hear about where Armada fits into continuity
(if at all) by the end of the series. Sounds like hogwash
to me, but I'll try to remain hopeful. Besides which,
apparently all new shows following are no longer going to be
related to anything that came before it. But I'll not
ramble on here. I'll just create another rumor and repeat
myself elsewhere.
6. Armada isn't
really going to be a TV show. It's just a comic being
produced by Dreamweave.
The lengths that people will go to for attention,
I swear... This is a load of crap. There is a show,
there is a toy line, and we've known about both for months.
There's a release list, even. We know some sketchy details,
but that is all. The reason -- and listen closely kiddies
because this is important -- the *REASON* that Dreamwave is doing
a comic called Armada is because they are making a book that runs
concurrently with Hasbro's most recent toy line! It's that
simple! If they were making a comic during the time when
Beast Wars was airing, it would have been a comic based on Beast
Wars and Beast Wars characters. The Dreamwave spokesperson
even said that they were doing two principle offerings -- a comic
based off of Hasbro's upcoming property "Armada" and
some G1 limited runs. And there you have it.
RUMOUR BUSTED!:
Fifty two episodes, Bitch (that's 52 for those of you who don't
read English, but still manage to speak it every day). Eat
it. Like it. Then ask for a pie. Wait!
You don't deserve pie! The show will run (as we've
heard) through winter of 2004. Then we're supposed to see
a new show. Why we're getting one around the beginning of
the new year is beyond me. Maybe that's grounds for a new
rumor. 7. Mainframe
is animating Armada.
They've been called and called, and have denied any knowledge of
the show at all. This could either mean that they really
don't or they're lying (there really aren't a whole lot of other
options, are there...). Only time will tell on this
one. I don't see why they WON'T go with Mainframe again --
there's a five year working relationship there after all.
Or maybe they're pissed off with what happened in Action Man...
RUMO(U)R BUSTER!:
Well, I guess it wasn't meant to be. Armada is cel-animated
(as much as ANYTHING is cel-animated these days). Or more
appropriately it's traditionally drawn and colored as opposed to
3D rendered, since almost everything is done with computers
now. Not so appropriate to say "computer
generated" as "computer edited". But that's
not the point! The point is that the show is being done by
the same mooks who animated Robots in Disguise. Why is
that? Well, check out the rumor about Takara and Hasbro
teaming up. It turned out to be true, after all.
Maybe the 3D thing just isn't popular in Japan. That's a
shame. Bastards. Anyway, the really neat thing about
this is that the animation style is being based off character
treatments done by Dreamwave -- the Canadian comics company
responsible for the new G1 and Armada comics series (see, those
lovable Canucks aren't on the down and out yet!). So we're
not going to see any crazy ass weirdness between Armada the show
and Armada the comic like with the first issue of the G1
series. Brrr... |
