That's right, you heard me. BETTER.
And when you get done watching it, I have some reaction stuff for you to
read.
I guess this is why Lou Scheimer's bid for a new show with the old cast
didn't pan out -- Mattel was already planning one! Sure, it ain't no Alan Oppenheimer, and it ain't no John Erwin, but hot
DAMN!
Okay -- this is what me likey:
-Adam (assuming that's who he is) looks nothing like He-Man at all
whatsoever. He sounds a LOT different, too, making me wonder of the two have
different voice actors.
-Teela kicking ass
-That chick totally sounded like the Sorceress!
-More ornate Castle Greyskull.
-Superb animation! The quality of the original was always good, but
almost every scene was cookie cutter. It was a big copy and paste job for
the most part. Whenever they'd use new footage, it wasn't always up to the
standards of the stock animation. And there was a comical effect to the
resuse, as well. I like the not too overtly anime-ish stylings.
-Stratos!
-Fuzzy underwear!
-That last shot was almost EXACTLY like the one in the credits of the
original show. I felt a chill go up my spine (I'm such a nerd).
Here's where I'm wary...
-It looks like a retelling, which is good on one hand. What I'd PREFER is
for all previous continuity to be more or less intact, but to go through the
origin again in flashback. Hell, that might be what they're doing. I doubt
it, though. I'll like it either way, I think.
-Don't make it TOO techno! Part of the magic of the show was that there
was a very definite fantasy element still intact, where science and magic
met at an interesting place.
-That sword. It reminded me a little too much of Thundercats. I also
remember an article in Toy Fare about how the toy designers (Four Horsemen)
had it initially so that Skeletor had the power sword and Man at Arms had to
fashion a new technology-based facsimile for Adam to use. This could have
been a good plot for the series (heck, I suppose they could still use it if
the show does well enough), but I think if it's done right I'm going to LOVE
this show.
And that's my two cents. I can't wait!
