Armada "Movie" to kick off new Cartoon Network Series!
26.06.02 - TheOrange
  Taken from ToonZone.net:

Cartoon Network has informed Toon Zone News that "Transformers: Armada" will bow Friday, August 23 at 4 p.m. (ET, PT) with a 90-minute movie. New episodes will premiere Fridays at 6:30 p.m. (ET, PT), starting August 30.

This is probably going to be less like a movie and more like G1's More Than Meets the Eye opening three-parter.  Hopefully it'll be less... bad... than that one was.  I mean, MTMtE is 18 years old now.  But I don't put anything past coporate bigwigs and so far unknown writing teams.  So, set your VCR timers now, kids.  Hopefully we'll have reviews up around Friday, August 23 at 6 p.m. (ET, PT).  But we'll see...

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Promo!
10.06.02 - TheOrange
Spooie comes through again, though this time it isn't Transformers related.  No.  It's BETTER.

That's right, you heard me.  BETTER.

You need RealPlayer or something that can play .rm files well to watch this, but I think you'll enjoy it.  Remember, Transformers: Armada isn't the only show based off of an 80s property to make its way onto Toonami.  That's right kids.  This is a promo for none other than a new He-Man and the Masters of the Universe series.  None of this planet Primus shit, none of that Dolph Lundgren "I only know twelve words in English.  I'm speaking them right now" malarky.  This is the real sword-wielding deal.  He-Man's back, and he's gonna tear you a new one.

And when you get done watching it, I have some reaction stuff for you to read.

I guess this is why Lou Scheimer's bid for a new show with the old cast didn't pan out -- Mattel was already planning one!  Sure, it ain't no Alan Oppenheimer, and it ain't no John Erwin, but hot DAMN!

Okay -- this is what me likey:

-Adam (assuming that's who he is) looks nothing like He-Man at all whatsoever. He sounds a LOT different, too, making me wonder of the two have different voice actors.

-Teela kicking ass

-That chick totally sounded like the Sorceress!

-More ornate Castle Greyskull.

-Superb animation! The quality of the original was always good, but almost every scene was cookie cutter. It was a big copy and paste job for the most part. Whenever they'd use new footage, it wasn't always up to the standards of the stock animation. And there was a comical effect to the resuse, as well. I like the not too overtly anime-ish stylings.

-Stratos!

-Fuzzy underwear!

-That last shot was almost EXACTLY like the one in the credits of the original show. I felt a chill go up my spine (I'm such a nerd).

Here's where I'm wary...

-It looks like a retelling, which is good on one hand. What I'd PREFER is for all previous continuity to be more or less intact, but to go through the origin again in flashback. Hell, that might be what they're doing. I doubt it, though. I'll like it either way, I think.

-Don't make it TOO techno! Part of the magic of the show was that there was a very definite fantasy element still intact, where science and magic met at an interesting place.

-That sword. It reminded me a little too much of Thundercats. I also remember an article in Toy Fare about how the toy designers (Four Horsemen) had it initially so that Skeletor had the power sword and Man at Arms had to fashion a new technology-based facsimile for Adam to use. This could have been a good plot for the series (heck, I suppose they could still use it if the show does well enough), but I think if it's done right I'm going to LOVE this show.

And that's my two cents. I can't wait!

Armada Air Date and Names of the Armada kids revealed!
06.06.02 - TheOrange
Armada is slated to begin airing on Cartoon Network starting August 30th at 6:30 ET / PT, and where it will air weekly every Friday.  The show will become part of the regular Toonami lineup in November.  52 episodes, kids.  Are you ready for it?

Also, we've long known that it's going to be three kids who uncover the Mini-Cons in Armada, but now we have names!  Carlos, Rad, and Alexa are the little tykes responsible for awakening the Street Mini-Cons which spur the Transformers to come to Earth and reclaim them, an action that will undoubtedly cause misery for themselves, their friends and family, and the rest of humanity for years to come.  I can't WAIT.

August 30th.  Mark your calendars.

[ Thanks to spooie at Toonzone.net for the info and helping me scoop Transfandom.com on those names! ]
